SAND MOLD WORKSHOP-$75/ 15 MAX PARTICIPANTS
This workshop welcomes all levels of experience. Participants should arrive with a finished pattern and plan on arriving the first day of the workshop. Mold size is limited to 200 lbs of sand and no more than 2 parts or 2 parts with a core. Rigid patterns should be free of undercuts. Semi-flexible patterns may have minimal undercuts. Iron allotted for work workshop is 100lbs. Any additional materials above and beyond what is provided for the workshop, will come at the expense of the participant.
This will be a three day intensive workshop on resin bonded sand molds with master mold makers and Sculpture Professor Ted Uran from Scottsdale Community College and Ryan Lamfers from University of West Georgia.
Parted molds will be made using the Lino-Cure Resin System Please bring your own personal safety equipment. Max iron: 100 lbs.
Molds weighing in excess of 500 pounds need to be cleared by Ted before the conference starts and will be charged for each additional #100 of sand.

CERAMIC SHELL WORKSHOP-$75/ 15 MAX PARTICIPANTS
Please only sign up for one workshop- they are all held at the same time/days. The ceramic shell casting process starts with a wax piece – a pattern- desired to be cast in metal. In this workshop you will take a wax positive and learn how to navigate the world of lost wax casting. Join Rhiannon Scheidt from Highlands University and David Jones from the University of Wyoming in learning how to get from wax to iron utilizing ceramic shell mold making.
Each workshop participant is limited to a wax pattern weighing a maximum of 7 lbs.
Create iron castings using the lost wax method of ceramic shell. It is best to bring your own wax patterns ready for spruing, but all experience levels welcome.
18×10″ Size Limitation, please.

SAND MOLD SLICKS-$80/ 1O MAX PARTICIPANTS
Please only sign up for one workshop- they are all held at the same time/days. Learn to forge your own slicks, an essential hand tool used to smooth and shape sand molds in metal casting. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn from Arizona Master blacksmith Mike Reimer as you work at the forge to hammer, draw out, and finish a functional slick from raw steel, picking up core blacksmithing skills (heating, drawing, shaping, and finishing) along the way. No experience necessary, just closed-toe shoes, natural-fiber clothing, and a willingness to get hot and hammer something. All tools and materials provided; participants leave with their own hand-forged slick.

TINY IRON-$80/ 15 MAX PARTICIPANTS
Please only sign up for one workshop- they are all held at the same time/days. Iron Casting has a history of being large, heavy, and tons of fun, but wait until you try tiny iron!
Small wax patterns (by small- weighing less than 26.8 grams, ex: pair of dice) are invested, burnt out and cast using a centrifugal casting machine. Any waxes larger than 2 inches should sign up for the Ceramic Shell workshop. Please bring several waxes (1-5) instead of just one, in case your wax will not work for the process. Each workshop participant will cast no more than two waxes.
Artist and WCIAA Board Member Alison Ouellette-Kirby will be teaching this workshop.

REACTIONARY MOLD WORKSHOP-$85/ 10 MAX PARTICIPANTS
Participants will learn to build simple yet effective reaction molds. This workshop focuses on “thunder boxes” (also called “fire boxes”) , multi-layered plywood or OSB boxes filled with consumable natural materials such as sawdust, paper, wooden patterns, drywall, and dry leaves or other plant matter. Participants may also stack cutout plywood patterns to build their mold. These molds typically produce a fireball effect through the mold vents, and reaction molds can be designed in many different configurations.
Participants are welcome to bring materials they’d like to include in their thunder boxes; however, all materials must be approved by the workshop leader and performance pour coordinator before inclusion in any mold. Molds will be poured during the conference’s performance pour, so participants should come prepared with appropriate personal protective equipment for that event.
The workshop fee includes up to two sheets of OSB or plywood, basic construction implements and hardware, and up to 50 lbs. of iron.
Artist and Professor Chris Meyer from South Dakota will lead with his expertise. Please email him directly after you have registered so you can speak about what you might like to do for this workshop. This helps us prep and be ready for your arrival.
